To understand better a betting line you must think of it as an indication of the amount you need to bet to win _say $100_ or the amount you will win if you bet the $100.
Betting lines are expressed with a negative or a positive number, for example: -110 or +110. The negative betting line number (-110) designates what you must wager to win $100, while the positive betting line (+110) number indicates what you will win if you wager $100.
If you bet $110 on a team with a betting line of -110, and they win, you will accumulate $210 _$110 from your bet and $100 that you just won.
Of course you can place bets over or below the $100 marked here as an example and with the payoff is the same ratio as before.
