Daytona has a New King
By Audrey Nolan
The American race driver Kyle Busch surprised us all after his latest win at the LifeLock.com race last weekend at which despite the mechanical difficulties he faced due to steering problems he was able to drive his way up from behind grasping his victory number seven in the present season. Since the starting of the 2008 Season he has won the following races: Kobalt Tools 500, Aaron's 499, Dodge Challenger 500, Best Buy 400, Toyota/Save Mart 350, Coke Zero 400.
Kyle is one of those drivers that you hate to love or vice versa love to hate but one of his most admirable qualities is the fact that he never quits regardless of the situation. Last Saturday he showed a strong position against Carl Edwards which was later pronounced as a sanction for him and at the end he managed to take the victory.
"It's me who has to stay a little calm and get back in the rhythm of what was going on," Busch said of his knack for overcoming diversity at restrictor-plate tracks. "I just made sure I drove a smart race and finished it out, and whatever came to us would come to us."
The race was full of events and surprises until the very last second as Busch and Edwards closely drove during the remaining lap until a multicar crash behind them shifted the attention. This also served as the tie-breaker as the entire speedway froze and while Edwards was pretty sure Busch was ahead, no one was 100 percent certain that he was the winner.
Edwards took the second position a bit disappointing as he would have hoped to race Busch for more than just one lap. Matt Kenseth, Edwards' teammate at Roush Fenway Racing, was third. He was followed by Kurt Busch, Roush driver David Ragan and Robby Gordon. Kasey Kahne, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer and Mark Martin rounded up the top 10.
During the race; we all thought for a moment that Jeff Gordon could accomplish his first victory of the season as he was strongly holding Busch down but with four laps to go still Busch switched strategies and within second flew away right before the multicar incident.
"Everybody was laying back and trying to get a run on the last restart," Gordon said. "They got the jump on me. I tried to block him. Maybe I came across Edwards' nose. Hard to say. It's unfortunate. We had such a strong run. I should have stayed on the bottom. My car was so good on the bottom," he said. "I'm probably madder at myself than anything else."
Once NASCAR gave the official announcement that Busch and his team had won the race they were able to celebrate the well deserved victory. And Busch did not forget to celebrate with his sarcastic usual bend to the crowd which is becoming his trade mark; as fans are getting use to it as they cheered up for him just as they did a couple of weeks ago at the Sonoma course.
