NASCAR – Garage dispute between Edwards and Harvick
Por Audrey Nolan
Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick had a dispute in the Nation Series garage at the Lowe’s Speedway last Thursday night.
According to witnesses, it all began when Edwards approached to Harvick and then started a conversation. Witnesses said that the conversation then turned into a discussion and Harvick decided just to walk away but Edwards grabbed him by his shoulder. However, there were no punches.
Edwards accepted that he had an argument with Harvick but he refused to give further explanations.
"The deal with me and Harvick is between me and him and there's nothing else to talk about," said Edwards. He also expressed that both him and Harvick know where each other stands and emphasized that he didn’t want to say anything else about that matter.
Afterwards, Edwards and Harvick had a meeting with Mike Helton, president of NASCAR, Robert Pemberton, vice president and John Darby, series director. After the meeting, they decided that the drivers will not be charged with any fines and that none of them will be on probation.
Apparently, the argument took place when Edwards went into the garage where Harvick was and wanted to talk with him about some comments he made in an interview about the multi car accident that Edwards started at the Sunday’s Sprint Cup at Talladega Superspeedway.
After the fight Harvick began to exchange heavy words, he reminded that Edwards is on his way to conquer the Cup title, following two-times consecutive champion Jimmie Johnson for 72 points. Harvick said that he did not matter who Carl Edwards is and that they are both racing to win. Edwards responded that they are two very different drivers and that it didn’t have any relevance. He also stated that it will be no problem to race with him in any of the races; they both are respectful and professional people.
"No matter what we think of each other personally, one of the best races I ever had in my life was Phoenix with him,'' Edwards said. He also stated that he respects Harvick and the competitive way he always races and that he did not want that to change.
After everything happened, Harvick just said that things could have been handled in a different way, without fighting or discussing. They should have tried to talk more instead of fighting.
Edwards’s team owner Jack Roush said that he regrets what happened with Harvick; he was on Washington D.C. when the situation took place, so he had a conversation with Carl after he came back to Charlotte. Roush said that he was pleased with the NASCAR decision of meeting with Edwards and Harvick. He added that he did not know what they talked about but he hoped that the result was positive and that they try to smooth things over between them.
