NFL – ‘Pacman’ Jones’ Career in Jeopardy Due To a Neck Injury

By Audrey Nolan

The comeback after suspension of the 25-year-old cornerback of the Dallas Cowboys, Adam “Pacman” Jones, was truncated due to he got injured on the game against the Pittsburg Steelers last Sunday and though the decision is not sure yet, he could be was sidelined for the rest of the season.

"Adam Jones has a herniated disc -- maybe two -- in his neck and they are going to look at it again," Cowboys Coach Wade Phillips said. "Our people don't think it's career-threatening or anything else, but he's going to see a doctor and be further evaluated."

The Dallas coach Wade Phillips also stated that Jones will definitely lose Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, a very important game since it could give the team a NFC East position for the playoffs. He also explained that they don’t know yet if the injury will actually leave him out for the rest of the season since the results from the tests that teams’ doctors practiced on him didn’t gave him a lot of hope, so his going to be checked by another doctor on Thursday, looking for another diagnosis.

This was Jones first game after being suspended for six games by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, which was the second time that he gets suspended for breaking the NFL’s conduct and disciplinary rule. After he was banned the first time, he had an arrangement with the commissioner, but apparently he had a public altercate with a personal security guard in a hotel because of an alcohol issue that caused the second suspension.

He had a lot of trouble last season when he used to play with the Tennessee Titans; he actually missed the complete season because of suspensions and was traded by the Titans to the Dallas Cowboys to avoid dealing with this anymore.

Jones was hurt early in the first quarter of Sunday’s game after he fell on a muffed kick, getting caught in a scamper for a loose ball. Jones was pulled out from the pile of players that fell over him by a Pittsburgh player and even though he was not feeling good he continued playing the rest of the game.

Jones started his football career at West Virginia University where he accomplished many records, such as the being the second in the West Virginia’s career kickoff return yardage record, with 1.475 yards. He missed his senior year to enter directly to the NFL 2005 Draft where he was picked by the Tennessee Titans. However, after all the issues between the franchise and Jones due to his off-field problems that caused his suspension, Tennessee made a deal with the Dallas Cowboys that, even though it was clearly in favor of Dallas since it was structured in a way that it would protect them in case Jones made more off-field violations, the Titans accepted it anyway because they really didn’t wanted to deal with “Pacman” anymore.

We all know that if Jones can change his disciplinary action, he can become a great player in the NFL, because as the Cowboys Coach says, he doesn’t have problems on the field, he goes to meetings and practices and with the team everything is fine; his issues are entirely off-field but they are surely affecting him because he has lost too many games. Now, this injury certainly doesn’t help, but let’s hope the best for him and that this injury does not turn in career ending problem.
