Double “B” Dispute at the MLS grounds … Blanco or Beckham?

By Claudia Beckford

The two Major League Soccer highest-paid stars -Cuauhtémoc Blanco (Chicago Fire) and David Beckham (LA Galaxy) - have become the centre-fold of attention over the past weeks, as their teams will meet this Sunday 21st on the green grounds of the Toyota Park.

It is still uncertain for the soccer fans whether Beckham will be part of the Galaxy’s list of players on the match, as he has not played since last August 23rd, when he injured his ankle, but this week he was present during the training sessions.

The critics are also very strong on both players as some support Blanco and others give their stand to Beckham, but overall the math is not that hard … while Beckham sits on the bench treating his carried over injuries; Blanco continues to impress fans leading his team to victories and overcoming most obstacles along his way to the top.

So let’s consider if there is fair play in the larger than conceivable salary gap between them, Blanco $2.67 million / Beckham $6.5 million (annually), but who sales the most? There is no doubt most know the answer to that; the Galaxy continues to wait for their start to do something spectacular and in the meantime the team does what it can to continue alive in the standings.

Galaxy’s representative commented on what this Sunday’s game could be…"It's been frustrating," Yallop said. "[Juan Pablo] Angel (Chicago Fire) has been a top player, Blanco's done a terrific job in Chicago and we've not really had David. Hopefully, we get some minutes out of him. We'll wait and see."

On the other hand, the non-worldwide-phenomenon, Blanco – a Mexican Icon continues to spark just half way through the season generating game audience increases at home and on the road games.
