Tiger Woods: Everything is Fine After His Surgery
By Audrey Nolan
Tiger Woods had a knee surgery last April 15th, two days after he was second on the Masters Championship an event that took everyone by surprised, even for those who were close to the golfer. On Friday; he wrote a note to his fans saying that the surgery which was performed to him was inevitable as his knee has been bothering him for the longest time.
"I knew a couple of months ago I was going to have the surgery," Woods wrote. "The knee has been bugging me for a while. The only decision was do you miss the Masters or play in the Masters? I decided to play. Even if I had won, I still would have had the surgery."
He also said he is not using the crutches he needed, he is using a knee brace and that he is just hoping to get into rehab very soon.
The initial time estimate of his recovery in order to return to play was from four to six weeks, which means he should be back in time for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, which begins June 12th. He could also return for the Memorial Tournament, which begins May 29th; but Woods gave no timetable.
He is missing the Wachovia Championship that was held this week, and will also miss the Players Championship that starts on May 8th.
Dr. Thomas Rosenberg was the one that performed the arthroscopic surgery in Park City, Utah. He was also involved in 2002 in a procedure to drain fluid from the knee.
"I've definitely been playing in pain, but that's not why I didn't win at Augusta," Woods wrote. "I just never got comfortable with my putting stroke. As I said after the tournament, I was dragging the putter coming through which meant I couldn't start the ball on line. That's all it takes on those greens. Obviously, it was frustrating because I hit the ball well enough to win. It was just one of those things."
Right now he said he is right on time for the recovery previous to the US Open which takes place from 12-15 at Torrey Pines, North of San Diego. Jack Nicklaus' tournament, The Memorial is two weeks earlier and is generally on Woods' schedule.
Heading into the Masters, Woods had won four of his five worldwide starts during the year and had not finished outside of the top five since last July while at the British Open, when he tied for the 12th position.
His successful career along with Woods' talent made him played some of the best golf we have seen; this led many to speculate that he could capture the Grand Slam this year. But that ended at the Masters, where he finished three strokes behind the winner Trevor Immelman.
Right now; Tiger Woods is only focused in going to rehab in order to recover as to let his knee heal; he is certain to return for the awaiting participation at the US Open next June.
