By Ally White

The current second place of the Western Conference, the Minnesota Lynx, beat the San Antonio Silver Stars after shooting in a great way this past Sunday with a score of 83-76. During that game, the great performance of Charde Houston and Roneeka Hodges, who scored 26 and 21 points respectively, gave the Lynx an amazing win.

Moreover, the current second higher scorer team in the league, the Minnesota Lynx, were coming from a loss on Friday against the Silver Stars, who took them to their lower shooting of the season with a 77-61 defeat. Nevertheless, things were different for Minnesota on this second meeting of the weekend as the Lynx adjusted and responded with an astounding shooting night to obtain the victory.

At the beginning of the game on Sunday, both teams were controlling the actions likewise, ending the first quarter with a score of 16-15 in favor of Minnesota. In second quarter, the Lynx entered stronger, having a run of 18-7 with the great performance of Hodges and Houston, who let the Lynx to a lead of almost 12 points with 3:48’ left. However during the final minutes the Silver Stars fought to comeback and cut the lead to just 7 points at half time.

Following the third quarter, the Lynx worked stronger and again took a lead of 15 points, ending the quarter with a score of 66-51 on their favor. In the final and decisive quarter, things didn’t change much, since Houston and Hodges kept contributing for the Lynx as well as Riley and Hammon did it for the Silver Stars, who even with their great effort couldn’t cut the lead and at the end of the game they lost with a 76-83 score.

After the game, the star of the San Antonio Silver Stars, Becky Hammon expressed that despite of their great effort to win on Friday and her good contribution on this Sunday’s game, Minnesota came to win and adjusted their game pretty well, and the great shooting they had was too much for San Antonio at the end of the game.

“We gave them a pretty good beating on their floor, and they came back and did it to us. You have to give them credit. They made some good adjustments to what we did to them last game. When you're trying to come back, and they're making threes at the buzzer, it's difficult to bounce back from that. They made some shots with people right in their face. It's just one of those nights,” stated Hammon.

The best scorers for the Lynx were Charde Houston with 26 points and 8 rebounds, Roneeka Hodges with 21 points, 2 assists and 3 rebounds, Nicky Anosike with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and lastly Candice Wiggins with 9 points, 4 assist and 4 rebounds. For the San Antonio Silver Stars the best scorers were Becky Hammon with 26 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds, Sophia Young with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Ruth Riley with 10 points and 6 rebounds and finally Vickie Johnson with 9 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

The next game for the San Antonio will be against the Washington Mystics on July 15th, whereas Minnesota will face the Atlanta Dream on the same day.
