The Cubbies up for sale
By Cindy Ferguson
After the 2007 Major League Baseball season, the Chicago Cubs will be up for sale. The selling of the team could be due to the National League’s team record. The current owner, Sam Zell, has recently acquired the team after purchasing the Tribune Company.
The Cubs have not won the World Series since the 1908 and have not even been to the championship since 1945. They are presently the team with the longest dry spell in between championships, not just only in baseball but also in all four of the major sport leagues.
Although, the Cubs have had a number of high quality seasons over the years and an excellent and strong comeback in the 2003 season, some have just lost faith in addition to patience.
The rumor of the selling was announced on April 2nd of the present year and analysts have predicted that the team could be bought for over $600 million, even though the Tribune spent only $20.5 million for the team back in 1981. On the potential buyers list are: Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Jerry Colangelo who is a Phoenix sports executive and the actor Bill Murray.
The billionaire, most wish would buy the team is Mark Cuban and that is due to the exceptional job he has done with the Dallas Mavericks. He has turned the team from one of the most horrible in the NBA to one of the finest by means of his power and money.
And that is just precisely what the team needs, someone that will make the Cubs one of his main priorities and who is also willing to spend what it takes to get them back on track and out of the whole they’re in.
