So Close but Will it Make a Difference
By Ally White
Bonds apologizes in advance if he doesn’t make the record. He thanked his family, his friends and everyone who put him there. This is the rest of America seeing a beloved Barry, a deserving Barry, a Barry soaked in orange-and-black adulation.
He'd have kept hitting his home runs either way. He'd have passed Hank Aaron, with or without Hank, with or without Bud Selig. But now the scenario for Barry Bonds has clearly changed, at age 42, at 751 home runs, and he said the boos don't bother him. He said the criticism means nothing to him.
The crowd, the reporters, everyone has been too hard on him when we realize he is just playing a game and the only difference from a child playing this game and us is age. Why should he be treated any different? He is trying the best he can given the circumstances.
We wish there was some way that he could rewind the tape and come up with a big hit every single time he does stuff. The San Francisco Giants, the 43,000 packing this little brick ballpark every night, they've taken his hand.
Selig does not even know if he is on the line up. And here is when we ask ourselves why? Because he is the best player on a team that would not win without him. Because they don't care what anyone else believes?
I do not think it is fair to Barry Bonds, 751 home runs is crazy most MLB players are 100 percent behind.
