Giambi holds the Latest Steroid Scandal

By Ally White

Jason Giambi said something very right the other day, Yankees’ first baseman said Major League Baseball should have apologized long ago for the sport's widespread drug problem, I think the apology is long overdue.

What they should have done a long time ago was to stand up, all of them together, the players, the ownership and admit they made a mistake; they should have apologized back then and made sure they had a rule in place and gone forward.

Everything started for Giambi when the San Francisco Chronicle reported in December 2004 that he had told a grand jury he had injected himself with human growth hormone during the 2003 season. Giambi publicly had denied taking performance-enhancing drugs, but his December 11, 2003 testimony contradicted those statements.

According to transcripts of testimony obtained by the Chronicle, Giambi told the grand jury he had used several kinds of steroids obtained from Greg Anderson, the personal trainer of San Francisco Giants superstar Barry Bonds.

That led Giambi to call a press conference in February 2005, in which he apologized but never addressed the reasons for the apology apparently due to legal issues.

The rumors are going to be a part of Giambi’s life. Now, he will be probably be tested more than anybody else but he states he has got nothing to hide, but when asked why he took steroids, he declined to answer.

The steroids scandal is part of the past now, but it is something that should be brought back to the table and be discussed, I feel a solution to the problem is not yet achieved. It will always be a raw competition in all mayor sports, young men and women competing to overcome and beat results. I think there is still much work to be done in order to make baseball what it used to be.
