Giambi admits to have used steroids
By Julie Smith
The professional baseball player finally decided to speak clearly about the illegal drugs he might have used during his carrier as a basement with the New York Yankees team. The first time that Jason’s name was mentioned regarding doping was exactly during the BALCO steroid scandal in 2004 in which Barry Bonds was the protagonist, but Giambi never openly accepted his involvement in the case.
In 2004 the team thought out about ending his contract but it did not happened, a year later he was given the award as a Comeback Player of the year. Now Jason’ announcement could cost him his job. However, Yankee’s general manager Brian Cashman refused to talk about Giambi’s declaration.
The acceptance of culpability by Giambi does affect the New York Yankees team but also exposes the dark face of this lovely sport, one of the favorites ones for United States fans. Looks like several players enhanced their numbers by using drugs but nobody wanted to talk about it; the doping practice appears to be the shadow of many records including Barry Bonds’ marks.
Unfortunately, the use of prohibited substances make the competition unfair and the users should be penalized since they are cheaters, even when they accept doing it by error. The regretting is valid for sports fans who deserve it. However, baseball authorities should reinforce the doping politics including tests and several penalties as a way to clear up the face of professional baseball.
