MLB Suspensions

By: Jane Richy

Baseball players such as Soriano, Seth McClung, Milton Bradley and Anderson have had problems in the field lately, because the Major League Baseball has punished them.

Dominican Rafael Soriano, Atlanta Braves pitcher, accidentally hit Dan Uggla of the Florida Marlins, Soriano assured he just tried to throw the ball inside and by mistake hit the batter in the left shoulder; he got suspended for four games and fined for $1,500, a couple of days after John Mc Hale, MLB’s vice president announced his suspension was reduced to two days and the fine to $1,000. Team’s manager Bobby Cox showed gratedful saying that getting less that four games was “pretty good” though Soriano wasn’t so happy because he considers he didn’t do anything.

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Seth McClung had a similar situation, while he was pitching in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on the eighth inning, the batter, this time hit Albert Pujols; Net Yost McClung manager and got ejected. The pitcher said it wasn’t on purpose and appealed the scansion showing a video of the pitch which showed it was bad mechanics but not intended to hit Pujols.

Milton Bradley from the San Diego Padres had a confrontation with umpire Mike Winters, Bud Black, his manager, stopped him from getting Winters, avoiding contact, thanks to that he was just fined but not suspended because there was not contact. Winters did get suspended for the rest of the season for aiming Bradley to fight.

Hopefully there is a moral after all these incidents, so they can stop and baseball can be enjoyed by the players and audience.
