MLB Orioles – Jay Payton suspended for inappropriate behavior

Por: Jane Richy

Baltimore Orioles left fielder Jay Payton was ejected for improper behavior during the game against the New York Yankees on Monday and Wednesday.

On both games Payton had problems but during the match on Wednesday he argued with theumpire Mike Reily about balls and strikes and when he was leaving the field he threw his bat and helmet behind him and almost hit Reily, because of this MLB’s vice president of rules Bob Watson announced his suspension for two days and fined him with an undisclosed sum; he said he expected the fine bur not to be suspended, thought he didn’t appeal and accepted the penalty saying “We’re not in a wild-card chase or anything, so I guess I'll just go ahead and serve it. I'll take my punishment like a big boy and be ready for Saturday."

The veteran said that as anyone else he has had bad times and it is part of the game and it is something that the players have to deal with it, sometimes they can lose temper and even get out of control.

This season The Orioles have nine ejections so far, three of them are from Payton, regardless of the inconveniences and misunderstandings he will not leave the team, he signed for two years and will finish his contract with Baltimore.
