By: Jane Richy
NFL Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick will have to spend some time behind bars in the Northern Neck Regional Jail for breaking the law.
Vick, who had signed a 10 year old contract with the team back in December 2004 for 130 million dollars, was accused of being involved in a scandal about dog fighting, slaying and gambling that sent him to court and put him behind bars after he turned himself over to the US marshals last Monday. Though, because of this behavior he now owes the Falcons an amount of 19.97 million dollars for violating the contract and breaking the laws, which he signed as “bonuses”. He is now serving his sentence even before he has been judged; the hearing is scheduled for next December 10th by Judge Henry Hudson.
Billy Martin, Vick’s attorney, explained that Vick accept responsibility for his actions and turning himself in is prove of that, he also said that “"Michael wants to again apologize to everyone who has been hurt in this matter and he thanks all of the people who have offered him and his family prayers and support during this time."
Apparently the twenty seven year old quarterback, owned an area in Southeastern Virginia that served as kennel where dogs where trained to fight, the charges that he is related with is known as Bad Newz Kennels. Between the consequences of his behavior he was suspended indefinitely by the Nation Football League, and most of his product endorsement relations have been suspended, also there are three banks that suit him for multi million amounts to recover loans for some of his “investments”.
Vick will spend his time in Jail until he gets his sentence in the next couple of weeks; he faces a punishment of five years in prison. Northern Neck Regional jail inmates are charged for offenses from misdemeanors up to murder, there are about 425 inmates and around 40 of them are women. The inmates are placed in small cells, and small dorms, “high profile” inmates are apart from the general population, though is not known Vick’s situation.
Federal guidelines suggest a sentence of one year to eighteen months; he is scheduled to be sentenced next December the 10th and the fact of entering voluntarily to custody is going to be taken in count.
