Third Edition of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Yas Marina will hold the 18th race of 2011 F1 World Championship

Between November 11th and 13th the opulent capital of the United Arab Emirates will host the III Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Starting on Friday the Yas Marina Circuit will have the first two practices, following with the third practice and then qualification on Saturday and finally the competition on Sunday. The 5.554 km racetrack is located at the Yas Island and is consider one of the most spectaculars, especially for the futuristic looks of the hotel through which it passes by.
Coming stronger than ever to the Abu Dhabi GP is the German Sebastian Vettel, who carries the two previous titles. Vettel became the youngest winner in history of the World Driver’s Championship in 2010 with 23 years and 98 days and continued with success in the current season, taking the lead from the very first GP, where he won the race and pole position.
Alonso, Webber and Hamilton will be looking for points to climb in the standings, while Jenson Button needs them to stay in second place
From the year’s 17 competitions completed Vettel has conquered 11 podiums as well as 13 pole positions. All of the year’s triumphs from Red Bull’s main driver have grossed 374 points until present, a new “most championship points in season” record-breaking; with it he is surpassing for more than a hundred points his 2010 record of 256pts.
Right now the biggest rivals for Vettel to encounter at the weekend battle are McLaren-Mercedes’ Jenson Button and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, they are now following him on the rank with 240pts and 227pts respectively. JB has been on the hunt for the German during the season, stealing the Canadian and Hungarian GPs, while in other 4 tracks grabbed the second place, including the Indian GP two weeks ago.
On the other hand the experienced Spaniard Fernando Alonso is still waiting for revenge, since he lost the World Champion title last year with a disadvantage of only 4 points, when he ended up second at the Yas Marina circuit. Since then Nano has been having a tougher time at the competitions. However he has managed to stay among the top five positions at most of the races he has driven and even won at the British Grand Prix.
Mark Webber in fourth position has helped Vettel to put their team, Red Bull-Renault, at an unreachable level, by giving a constant good performance through the 16 races he’s participated. Hamilton remains 5th on the drivers’ standings with 202pts, yet he stated some days ago that he is confident in closing the season as good winner; to this I most say that a big motivation will be not finishing the season behind his teammate Jenson Button.
In another matter, Williams’ Pastor Maldonado, has been penalized for using a ninth engine for the year at the Indian Grand Prix, when the gearbox of his FW33 broke down during lap 13. The Venezuelan driver has to drop 10 places on the grid for the Abu Dhabi competition as the punishment, which means that he’s likely to start on the last row of the grid.
In conclusion the 55 laps’ race is going to give us a very exciting Sunday to all the spectators at Abu Dhabi, as well as at home, who can watch it live at Speed at 7.30am EST.
