Women's Open awaits Annika Sorenstam

Annika Sorenstam, the 36-year-old professional golfer from Sweden and current title holder is anxious to recover and defend this year’s Women’s Open championship at Pine Needles.
Sorenstam has suffered from injuries in a disk in her back as well as a shattered disk in her neck since 1999. One of her biggest goals at the present time is to recover before the end of June for this year’s tournament to have a shot at becoming the third player in history to have won four Women’s Open Titles and she is very positive of being able to do so. On a conference call throughout the U.S. Open’s media day she informed the reporters that her physician stated a 50-60 percent improvement and is optimistic of a full recovery sooner than expected.
Pine Needles is a special and unique place for Sorenstam where she has great memories and it is one of the places she loves to visit and is impatiently awaiting to return and defend her title that she won last year which was her third title when she defeated Pat Hurst in a playoff.
The course consists of 6,644 yards with 71 pars and has been recently improved to be in perfect for the championship. The course furthermore had its greens re-established, its pin placements were moved and its rye grass surface was restored with Bermuda grass.
