US Open 2007
By Cindy Ferguson
Americas 107th US Open is loaded with talent and lots of rivalry amongst the pro golfers. The Championship will be played at Oakmont Country Club located in Oakmont, Pennsylvania for the eighth time, a number that certainly deserves respect. The dates are from the 14th until the 17th of June. Golf fans are thrilled to have four wonderful days of full of nothing but pure golf endowment.
Although, Tiger Woods is the favorite for many, it will not be made easy for him to defeat the amount of world-recognized players he will be up against. Woods admits the championship is not an easy one and recognizes exactly what he’s dealing with. He, in fact, evaluates the competition as one of the most difficult and the type where you just can’t afford to have anything go wrong for if you want the title all for yourself.
The number three ranked player in the world, Jim Furyk, is one of the men that any golfer on the list wants to watch out for as he seems to do extremely well at courses like Oakmont’s and who also won the 2003 US Open.
Phil Mickelson, on the other hand, has been disadvantaged with a wrist injury since playing out of the Oakmont rough in mid-May. However, according to him he is able to play without any problem even though he still feels pain and one wrong move sure wouldn’t benefit him in any way.
Nevertheless, this weekend could give Rory Sabbatini a knockout opportunity to prove his skills. He defeated Furyk at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial nearly three weeks ago, and tied for second behind Zach Johnson at the Masters.
Other to keep an eye on is the two-time Open champion Retief Goosen who also has the possibility to get his game back on track, but when he’s performing well he can stack up with the best. And you can’t just forget about the highest-ranked non-American in the world, Adam Scott, he is fourth in the World Golf Rankings ahead of Ernie, Vijay, and an entire group of other big names.
