Steve Williams donates $1 million
By Cindy Ferguson
Tiger Woods’ caddie, Steve Williams, donated $ 1 million to a New Zealand children’s hospital, Auckland’s Starship Hospital, to lend a hand in the financing, reconstruction and extension of its oncology and hematology divisions.
Williams has been caddie to Woods, who is also very generous in helping the needy since 1999. He is also considered one of the highest-earning New Zealand sportsmen.
He made known the gift himself during a Holiday in New Zealand. The donation was completed by the Steve Williams Foundation, which was set up in 2001 and has usually maintained junior golf and motor racing projects. The announcement was made to hospital staff, patients and their families, who were more than thankful and pleased to hear the news.
Williams and his wife, Kirsty, felt the need for the foundation to aid other areas that are in great need of assistance and support. Their wish is to facilitate in making a difference and lend a helping hand to those who are in the need of it. The project will now be named the Starship cancer ward.
They spent time and met many families in the cancer and stated it was an emotional and unforgettable experience and something that many more should participate in.
