Another Major for Woods
By Julie Smith
Tiger Woods is now closer to his 18 major professional titles goal, with the victory on Sunday he achieves his 13th conquest and confirms the reason he is the number one golfer of the world. Moreover; he defends his remarkable record of having won every major in which he has led while heading into the final round.
The triumph at Southern Hills Country Club was not as easy as others for the golden golfer, besides the high temperature of 102 degrees and a heat index of 110, Woods had to deal with the journeyman, Woody Austin, who was the most challenger contender during the whole tournament and actually beat him three of the four days. The American shot a closing 67 at Southern Hills Country Club to finish just 2 shots behind Woods.
South African Ernie Else was as well a hard opponent; he pushed and played brilliant golf for a while to make Tiger’s way to the title a bit more difficult. Even he couldn’t make it to the first place, he demonstrated at Tulsa that is a rejuvenated figure who is enjoying once again trading at the top of major leader boards.
But there is no doubt that to be the world number one golfer it’s needed more than a good shape. According to Woods “there is an art to winning and understanding how to get it done”. Definitely, Sunday’s final proved that he knows how to manage his mind.
Tiger’s PGA Tour season does not stop and the chances of his nearest contenders are plenty. They will measure forces again in the inaugural event of the FedEx Cup, a 10 million dollar prize tournament conformed by four event playoff series to be celebrated on August 23rd.
