There will be no Triple Crown winner
By Jill Woods
For this year’s riding season, there will be no Triple Crown winner as Curlin overcame Street Sense last Saturday in an exciting Grand Finale, putting an end to the possibilities of having a new title holder.
The Kentucky Derby winner was defeated at the end of this intense journey, being snatched of the crown by Curlin who won the Preakness Stakes.
Everything pointed to Street Sense of becoming the next Triple Crown winner, but destiny and Curlin rode by the professional Robby Albarado found a way to lay a different end to the tale.
Three races before, Robby was pulled down of a horse but this was no obstacle for Albarado to achieve this victory which does represent a great deal for his career.
Before arriving to the Preakness, Curlin was third at the Derby, but the trainer’s support and instruction as well as the lot of fans cheering for the horse made the triumph become a reality.
Curlin is 3 years old and it is Smart’s Strike son.
No one quite believed Curlin could accomplish this victory as he began at the bottom of the list among the nine competitors of the tournament.
The facts
During the race Hard Spun was leading the race, but Street Sense was not willing to give in his place that easy and made some pressure, surpassing the participants. Calvin Borel came up into the game passing them and taking control on the track, but it was not enough. Curlin set his pace and reached the title changing positions from 3rd to 1st place.
