Duke Wins on its 2007 Debut

A lot of fans welcome back Duke for the 2007 season. They didn’t play last season because of the rape charges against three players. After a year of criticism, the players went out the field with a lot of enthusiasm and optimism for this 2007 season.
“We hadn't been out there as a team playing like that in a while, and you almost forget what it feels like," senior midfielder Dan Oppedisano said. "The big thing about today was we're back on the field and having fun. And it couldn't have been more fun. It was unbelievable."
With a crowd of more than 6,000 fans that were very supportive with a team that until last year was lost in the shadows, Duke tried to make the game a special event with a triumphant return with an inflatable tunnel and smoke machines.
They were trying to give a warm welcome to the team and the new coach, but they still have present the bad moments that they went through last year and they are still missing David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann; who are still charged for rape. "It was a little bit of guys wondering, 'Why am I getting to move forward and they're not?'" the coach said. "They're very bright and very sensitive young men ...and they care."
At the end they celebrated their victory 17-11 over Darthmouth with goals of Zack Greer and Danny Loftus among others. Next game will be against Denver at home.
