Jacques Villeneuve starts in the Craftsman Truck Series

Last Saturday, September 22nd, former 1997 Formula 1 World Champion, Jacques Villeneuve took part, for the first time, of an US-American NASCAR race in the Craftsman Truck Series.
On the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Villeneuve reached in his Toyota Tundra one round behind the winner Travis Kvapil. In the training he qualified for the 7th position, but felt back on place 21 in the official race, because of a collision in round 46. His comment to the crash was: “I was really surprised, actually it was not such a big crash, but my car got damaged quiet a lot”.
The Craftsman Truck Series is organized by NASCAR and they contest with converted Pickups. The reigning champion from 2006 is Todd Bodine from Germain Racing.
During last August, Villeneuve left after ten years the world of Formula 1.
BMW and he canceled the contract by a common agreement. The 36 years old Canadian finished his Formula 1 career with a total of 162 starts, eleven victories and 23 places in podium.
In the middle of this year he signed a contract with the NASCAR team Bill Davis Racing, which is planning to let Villeneuve start at the Sprint Cup in the 2008 season. Approximately he will start in the seven races from the Craftsman Truck Series which are left in order to reach the required conditions.
In the following season Villeneuve will meet and old Formula 1 friend: Juan Pablo Montoya, who got fired on June 11th 2006 by McLaren Mercedes and changed over immediately to the American NASCAR-Race Series.
