The Dodge Save Mart 350

By Jill Woods

At the Infineon Raceway and featuring some Nextel Cup stars the 2006 Dodge Save Mart 350 was taking place on a very hard road in Sonoma, California. Here some of the most promising talents can develop their abilities.

During the qualifying stage the best time to take the pole was placed by Kurt Busch, and Jamie McMurray started on the outside of the front row.

Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman made up row number two and Boris Said led all the race experts with his fifth qualifying place.

Out of the pole sitter Jamie McMurray got off course and spun in turn two of the very first lap. Then Kenny Schrader spun later that same lap and took a hard hit from Sterling Marlin. This situation brought a red flag condition while crews cleaned up the mess.

On lap four they went back to green flag racing. Kurt Busch advanced cleanly and took the head quite early. Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick were second and third.

Robby Gordon, Boris Said and Mark Martin made up the next three spots. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon were both fighting in the track early in the race.

The race was won by Jeff Gordon which became his first victory for 2006.
