Joey Porter out for preseason
By Cindy Ferguson
The Miami Dolphins 30 year old linebacker, Joey Porter, was submitted to his third arthroscopic knee surgical procedure last Tuesday and is expected to be out for all four of the team’s preseason games.
After having bothersome and worrisome pain in his knee during the training camp, such soreness took Porter out of action this past Friday and forced him to have a second opinion made by Dr. James Andrew in Birmingham, Al, who also performed the operation after confirming the need to operate. His knee had been giving trouble since the end of last season.
His recuperation will take at least two weeks, which will most likely put him out of action for the Dolphins four exhibition games. Their first game is scheduled on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars where Donnie Spragan will replace Porter.
Porter was transferred from the Pittsburgh Steelers after eight long seasons with the team when he signed a five-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on March 8, 2007 that is worth no less than $32 million and includes a $12 million signing bonus plus an $8 million in guaranteed money.
Throughout his stay within the NFL he has only been unable to play on six different occasions where some where do to his knee problems and two to others that were caused by an injury in his hamstring.
Once the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker comes back in play he is expected to immediately step in as the starting strong side linebacker and play opposite Jason Taylor and will continue to wear No. 55.
