Oakland Riders New Signing
By Julie Smith
Just one month after being released from the Miami Dolphins, quarterback Daunte Culpepper has signed a one year contract with Oakland Riders to have a new opportunity after a gloomy 2006. The 30-years-old player represents part of a backup plan since the team had not get an agreement yet with the superstar JaMarcus Russell.
The player is positive about to recover the good shape he used to have when playing with the Vikings in 1999 and until 2005, where he achieved a quarterback rating of 90.8. He only played 4 times during 2006 season with the Dolphins which might caused the loss of figure necessary to profile that rating ever again. However, the 3.2 million contract could be a great motivation for Culpepper to resurrect his sport career.
With all the physical characteristics to fulfill the expectations of the team the Pro Bowl former had his first practice with his new team this Wednesday in Redwood Middle School at Napa Valley. According to head coach Lane Kiffin: “The plan is to get Daunte to the point where he’s getting the same amount of reps as McCown and Walter”.
Now everything seems to be on Daunte’s side and remains on him the responsibility to learn the team system as well as to prove his knee injury is a thing from the past and he is ready to take the reins of a starting quarterback job.
