New England Patriots 6-3 and looking good!

By Chuck Berkley

I must give lots of credit to the New England Patriots for being able to put a team in the zone and basically make them choke; and in the AFC East choking in mid-season is unquestionably a trip to downfall.

Matt Cassel had half of the credit this past Sunday November the 9th, when rookie BenJarvus Green-Ellis took the Patriots to a whole new defensive level against the Buffalo Bills with a killer 20-10 score.

It was an exciting game for both two teams, especially for the Pats for whom, if it wasn’t for some tricky plays that didn’t came alright, the score could have ended up even better for the New England Patriots. Even if defensive end Aaron Schobel and receiver Josh Reed could have played that game (out for injuries), they wouldn’t make such big a difference for Buffalo, as the team paid the price at the end for playing it easy all 4 quarters.

With impressive 234 yards and 23 completed passes out of 34, a very confident Matt Cassel proved one more time, why he is the best replacement for Tom Brady. Besides playing a well organized game, Matt went ahead on the 4th and did a surprisingly 13 yard touchdown; the same Matt who weeks ago was afraid of such a hit. The defensive end played a big role too, back screen and covering the QB.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis was very limited his last years at Ole Miss, as he shared the back rotation with Chris Taylor (Houston Texans currently) but still managed to stat 5 TDs and 794 Rush Yds on 231 carries. As a free agent, Green-Ellis took the chances with the Patriots back in October 12 of the present year; it was totally worth it as he has score 4 in a row touchdowns the past games. Green-Ellis is definitely gaining the nickname “Mr. End Zone” as he knows that’s his exact position to be on the field.

The Buffalo Bills certainly watch the Patriots films based from the past games; so how could they miss the perimeter and middle plays so bad? Well, as they assure it was very different watching it on a screen, than performing it on the field. The bad news for the Bills is the 5-4 on the record book this season; the 3 in a row defeat against the Dolphins, Jets and now the Patriots has put the squad in a “better win” position next Monday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns.

The Patriots are aiming high now that Matt Cassel is improving on a weekly basis and the obvious reason is that he wants to keep the position, and since Tom Brady will come back sooner or later he must stand out while he cans. New England is playing the Jets next week for the second time this period, as the team saw punishment on week 2 with a 19-10 in Pats favor.

The AFC East division is allowing the New England Patriots to set the pace, and in the mid-season that is a risky business because most of the teams in this conference have similar play power, although perhaps a different hunger for victory.
