Around the English Premier League – Round 14
Newcastle falls to the sixth position while Chelsea and Arsenal climb up in the Barclays
By Camilla Mancini
The top 3 squads of the standings are doing great and although obviously Manchester City stands out as the season’s best, I must say that Tottenham has been doing an amazing job lately, while United seems to be letting its football weaken. In fact for the Red Devils fighting in the Premier League is what’s left, since they were left out of the Champions League and the English League Cup during the last couple of weeks. Ferguson could only acknowledge the reality and admit to feel disappointed, also stated that he is asking his boys to use that disappointment as a strength to play more vigorously on their coming matches. Be that as it may, at least they continue winning in the Premier, even if for the minimum.
Manchester United has to beware of losing the second place to Tottenham Hotspur that follows it just three points behind
So Manchester United along Aston Villa concluded Saturday’s match at 1-0, the Red Devils current regular score. The goal came early in the game, when Phil Jones grabbed the ball in a cross made by Luis Nani at the 20th minute. Almost 10 minutes before though, Ferguson’s nightmare begun with Javier Hernandez on the ground with a torn ankle ligament, Chicharito was stretchered off the field and won’t come back until January. The Mexican now has to wait a month to recover and during that time the club will have around 6 encounters; what makes it worst for Ferguson is that Rooney hasn’t been at his best during the nine last matches, on which he didn’t score once.
For the Manchester City things look better even though it was eliminated from the Champions League as well. In the 14th fixture of the Premier the Citizens prove themselves again by shooting Norwich over and over again to finally reach the 5-1. The poor Canaries had no chance with the Blues that with an amazing set of moves from Sergio Aguero, who passed the ball between the legs of 3 Norwich players to score, obtained the lead on the scoreboard at 31 minutes. The rest of the goals came during second half, first at 50’ Samir Nasri with assistance from Dzeko gave his team the 2-0; a while later Yaya brought the third goal in a combination with Silva at 68’. The last two goals came by the end of the encounter, after the Canaries got their consolation goal thanks to Morison; at 88’ Balotelli sent the ball in with his shoulder and the last one was Johnson’s work.
Tottenham and Newcastle finished their fixtures 3-0 both, but one winning and the other one losing. The Spurs who remained third blasted Bolton in their visit to the White Hart Lane, while Newcastle had a tougher opponent at home, Chelsea FC. The Pensioners that were in search of the 4th spot of the board didn’t waste time and even though the Toons made a great effort, Chelsea executed them with the 3-0. The defeat left Newcastle in the sixth position, while the visitors in the Sports Direct Arena stole away the 4th spot from the hosts.
The other matches from round 14: Wigan 0-4 Arsenal; QPR 1-1 West Brom; Blackburn 4-2 Swansea; Everton 0-1 Stoke; Wolves 2-1 Sunderland; Fulham 1-0 Liverpool.
