The Iranian- German player Dejagah refuses to play in Israel
By Stephen Lars
The German football player of Iranian origin, Ashkan Dejagah, made a statement to the Bild newspaper regarding his dispute to play with the Sub-21 German group which will play against Israel, on October 21st in Tel Aviv, this due to "political reasons".
The 21-years-old Dejagah said his refusal has political reasons because everyone knows that he is a German of Iranian origin. But the German Football Confederacy (DBF) president, Theo Zwaziger, regretted this decision.
"If we begin to act in function of the political things, the sport will be the great loser", Zwaziger said, although the DFB accepted the decision of the player, that will not dispute the qualifying game for the Euro Copa 2009 sub-21.
Dejagah Born in Teheran first played in the Hertha of Berlin, before passing to the Wolfsburgo during the pre-season. Dejagah’s brother currently plays for the Iranian team.
