Beckham back on the bench

By Julie Smith

North American soccer fans especially the Galaxy’s are very disappointed of paying the price for Beckham’s ankle injury. Furthermore, the Beckham- mania has start loosing its shine due to the few appearances of the star on the field after a month of being contracted. His absence from Sunday’s game against the New England Revolution represents a high risk not only for his team also for his own credibility.

The $32.5 million contract signed by Beckham represents a big investment of the L.A team to boost the American Football and there is no doubt that the player has the talent to do it but not while seating on the bench. Even all the fans are well aware of David’s injury, he still being the main attraction of the MLS and many of the expectations from the Galaxy team for the coming seasons remain on him.

L.A. is in desperate need of a win to keep its fading playoff chances from completely disappearing. The team will definitely need to start delivering better performances and to have Beckham back on the field could be the best injection of motivation to do so. However, they need to have clear that David won’t be able to magically resurrect the team by it self, he will need the support of a good team to do it.

Everything is set up for the next SuperLiga match to be play on Wednesday night, where Galaxy will host D.C United. The only suspense for Wednesday will be whether Beckham starts or comes off the bench, as he did last week. As a hope for everybody, he has announced that he is ready to play at least 45 minutes from the game.
