Winter Games City Candidate - Sochi 2014

There are three main cities competing to host the Winter Games in 2014, Salzburg in Austria, Pyeongchang in South Korea and Sochi in Russia. Each country has done a campaign to convince the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Russia is a strong contender with a very interesting proposal.
Sochi with an extension of 147 kilometers claims to be the longest city in Europe, is a Russian resort city in Krasnodar Krai near the Southern Russian border, overlooking the shores of the Black Sea located among the snow capped peaks of the Caucasus Mountains.
Besides offering a beautiful landscape Russia has won 293 winter Olympic medals in the past, and has no history of hosting the Winter Games; also it has committed to invest 9 billion Euro ($12 billion) to develop the Sochi region into a new winter sports compound.
On Wednesday July 4th the IOC will vote in Guatemala City. The classification is based on 11 criteria, which includes subjective points such as; ambiance and objective details like: accommodation and/or transportation. For this the IOC committee members and other sports leaders have visited multiple times the cities in the past 2 years.
Vladimir Putin - Russia’s president will visit Guatemala during the activity to promote the campaign and as a guarantee for the IOC that the Winter Games if to be held in Sochi do count with all the government’s support.
