Important Facts

  • For 2006 as in 2004, the Brazilian Grand Prix was moved to the honorable position of hosting the final round of the season, this year also being Michael Schumacher's farewell to F1.
  • Interlagos track was renamed as Autódromo José Carlos Pace to honor him after his death.

  • The Interlagos circuit has been criticized for being very bumpy. There have been attempts to smooth the surface but drivers are still not happy.

  • The length on the Interlagos track was shortened from 7.874km to 4.325km. In 1997 the lap was reduced to its current 4.292km (2.267 miles).

  • In 1994 the winner at Interlagos was destined to become the World Champion. It became an important fact on Formula one and it happened again in 1991 and 1992.

  • David Coulthard finished 2nd in his Brazilian GP debut in 1995 and again in 1998.

  • During the 2004 session a stray dog got into the circuit so it had to be stopped.
  • Since the Brazilian Grand Prix returned to this track, every single driver was either a World Champion or a future one, therefore, some players usually use their lucky charms as Mika Hakkinen with his toy frog, Alex Wurz with his different coloured boots and Johnny Herbert with his lucky underpants.
