Canadian Important Facts

  • On 1967 the Grand Prix of Canada was held on the Mosport race track, Bowmanville Ontario.
  • 1968 Denny Hulme won ahead of his teammate Bruce McLaren with one lap lead. This fact remains the most important in Grand Prix of Canada history.
  • 1969 the youngest driver that won the Grand Prix of Canada, was Jackie Ickx, at 24 years, 7 months, 29 days. In 1970 he won for the second time in Canada, but it was the last of his career.
  • 1980 Australian Mike Thackwell, at the age of 19 years, was established the youngest driver to ever take a start in a F1 Grand Prix.
  • 1990 Ayrton Senna scores a second victory in Montreal.
  • 2000 The driver Michael Schumacher (Ferrari) wins the 4th Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal, being the 40th in his career. His team mate Rubens Barrichello finished 0.174 seconds behind him, remaining the narrowest margin of victory in Canadian Grand Prix history.
  • 2001 Michael Schumacher’s brother, Ralf Schumacher wins the Canadian Grand Prix ahead of Michael.
  • 2002 Michael Schumacher wins the 5th Canadian Grand Prix, becoming the most famous and successful driver in the history of this event.
  • 2003 Michael Schumacher did it again, winning the 6th Canadian Grand Prix, giving the 10th victory to Ferrari in this event.
  • 2004 Michael Schumacher obtains the 7th victory on this race, the 3rd consecutive.
  • 2007 saw the rookie Lewis Hamilton reach the triumph at the Canadian GP, being this the first winning of the British in Formula 1.

Canadian Grand Prix Circuit - Guilles Villenueve

  • After the drivers’ disappointment when the Canadian Grand Prix was moved to a new track which was located in St. Lawrence, Montreal. This track was renamed Guilles Villenueve in 1982, in memory of the driver that was killed at the beginning of the season.
  • This track is 4.421km (2.747 miles) in length. The race length is 305.049km (189.548 miles) with 69 laps.
  • The track record was made for Michael Schumacher in Ferrari F310B V10 with a time of 1m 19.379 seconds and speed of 200.45km/h (124.581 miles/h).
