Important Facts US Grand Prix
2000 - Michael Schumacher won his second of four straight US Grand Prix to end the season.
2001 – This year the race was suspended for over 3 weeks due to the 9/11 events, and many drivers and F1 teams made tributes to Unites States using their cars
2004 – The US Grand Prix in Indianapolis was moved at the beginning of the early summer.
2005 – 7 teams left the race due to problems with Michelin tires. After this, only 6 cars participated but the show was quite decadent. Many commentators were wondering if a US Grand Prix will be held on the Indianapolis track again. However, the event will continue next July 2 , 2006.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The circuit was built in 1909 and it is a 2.606-mile road that uses one mile of storied oval in a clockwise direction. It is run counterclockwise which makes the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track different from most of the racetracks. In 2000 there were approximately 225,000 spectators probably the largest number ever registered in the Formula 1 history.
