After having merely seven races in the opening World Championship in the 1950 season, the Grand Prix nowadays has seventeen races distributed over Europe, Asia, Australia, North America and South America.
The Bahrain, China and Turkey Grand Prix present new opportunities for the growth and evolution of the Formula One Grand Prix franchise whilst new facilities also raise the wall for other F1 racing venues around the world.
The most recent addition to the F1 calendar is Istanbul Park in Turkey, which first staged an F1 race in 2005. The next confirmed addition will be a track in Abu Dhabi in 2009, although a proposed Singapore Grand Prix, which may become the first night race, could be staged as early as 2008.
