Golf Betting - Ryder Cup History
History - Facts -Winners
The Ryder Cup was first competed in 1927 with the US competing against Great Britain; then in 1973 the Ryder Cup was extended to Britain and Ireland and then to all of Europe in 1979 which made the Ryder Cup quite more competitive. Currently, the golf matches are jointly administered by the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour.
The Ryder Cup involves various matches between players selected from two teams of 12 and these take place over a period of three days from Friday to Sunday.
Due to World War II the Ryder Cups from 1939 to 1945 were cancelled.
The 1999 Ryder Cup featured a remarkable comeback by the Americans; they went 8-3-1 in singles play to take the Ryder Cup title. The Ryder Cup turned on the 17th hole of a match between Justin Leonard (US) and José María Olazábal (Spain). Afterwards, some European players complained about the outcome of the match at some American galleries.
In 2001 the Ryder Cup match was delayed for a full year due to the September 11 terrorist attacks. At the same time, it was decided to hold the golf event only in even-numbered years instead of odd-numbered years. The most recent Ryder Cup was won by Scotsman Colin (Europe).
