This Championship was created in 1974 as the Tournament Players Championship, and it was first played in Marietta, Georgia at the Atlanta Country Club.
The Championship was moved to Ponte Vedra Beach and the Sawgrass Country Club, in 1977. The main idea was to build a majestic club house. There have also been renovations that will rise to a new level among the greatest contest on the 2007 Championship. This field has been also the house of many of the best players of golf
The Players Championship is always held at the Sawgrass Stadium Course. It is one of the most popular titles disputed on this strongest field. Fred Funk won at the Sawgrass in 2005 and became the oldest winner of the history on this tournament. Also this Championship has a big list of winners and an exciting history.
Prizes
The highest prize offered in a golf tournament was given by The Players Championship on 2005, and it was for $8 million.
