The Blackhawks were a regular playoffs time between the 1960s and the early 1990’s, however, during the last decade the team has only managed to qualify twice; the first one in the season 2001-02 when they were defeated early in the Conference Quarterfinals 1-4 to the St. Louis Blues, and the second one in the current 2008-09 season, in which the team finished in the second position of the Central Division and clinched their first playoff berth in six years by defeating Nashville 3-1.
Chicago finished this season with an overall record of 46 wins, 24 losses and 12 overtime losses, to a total of 104 points, in the fourth position of the Western Conference.
The team’s current Head Coach is Joel Quenneville, former St. Louis and Colorado coach, who assumed the position since last October 2008 when Denis Savard was relieved from his duties.
