Eastern Conference - Northeast Division

During the team’s early days in 1909 the Canadiens were part of the Nation Hockey Association for a period of eight years before transferring to the NHL in 1917. The Canadiens have been a true powerhouse of the sport as the team has achieved countless division and conference championships throughout the decades besides their 24 Stanley Cup victories.

Over the past season in recent years the Canadiens have been quite shaky but have managed to reach the playoffs quarterfinals in two occasions besides on semi final during this recent 2007-2008 campaign; the team managed 47 wins versus 25 loses and the first place in the Northeast Division.

The Canadiens’ current Head Coach is the Canadian Guy Carbonneau who has led the team for two seasons in a row obtaining a record of 164 games, 89 wins, 59 loses.   Carbonneau has counted with the aid of team’s captain the Fin Saku Antero Koivu who has been with the team since the 1995-96 season.

The team’s future seems very promising as the following 2008-09 season will be the 100th anniversary of the franchise which will unveil a renovated group which is ready for another Cup trophy to be added to their already-vast collection.
