The club was first founded in the early 1970’s as was one of the teams which were part of the WHA (World Hockey Association).
The team was known as the Winnipeg Jets; later that same decade the team transferred to the NHL but encountered many problems and was not able to fully adjust to the new structure.
For the 1996-97 season the team was renamed the Phoenix Coyotes but still they have not been a very successful ice hockey group.
During their previous three seasons the Coyotes have finished in 5th and 4th place in the conference respectively and have not been able to qualify for the playoffs.
The current team’s captain is Sean Doan and some of the players included in the actual roster are: Mikael Tellqvist, Derek Morris, Matt Jones, Craig Weller, Martin Hanzal, Niko Kapanen and Kyle Turris.
The Coyotes play their home games at the Jobing.com Arena located in Glendale, Arizona ever since the sports facility opened back in 2003.
