Binghamton College participates in NCAA Division I as part of the American East Conference since 2001.

The men’s basketball team has not been constant throughout its history.

During the 2006-2007 season the team finished with the worst record in the conference.

In 2007 the team’s coach Al Walker was replaced by Kevin Broadus.

The team plays its home games at the multipurpose center of Binghamton University called the Events Center with a capacity for 5, 142 spectators.

In recent years, both Broadus and his team have come under heavy criticism. Some of the players' off-court antics have had them arrested by the local police. As if that was not enough, one of the team's female cheerleaders has filed a sexual harassment suit against the Athletic Department.

The Bearcats have made the headlines inside the court as well. In the 2008-2009 season, they finished first in the America East Conference standings with an impressive 13-3 in conference record and a 23-8 mark overall. They had a good season, but as many as 6 of the Bearcats players will be graduating before the 2009-2010 season starts.
