The Vermont Catamounts basketball team has had several appearances in the NCAA tournaments, it also won the American East Conference Championship in 3 consecutive years (2003 to 2005) and last year 2007 the team was the runner-up in this tournament against Albany.

The Patrick Gym with a capacity of 3,266 seats is the home of Men’s and Women’s Basketball. The facility has already host three of the last four America East Men's Basketball Championship Games (2004, 2005 and 2007).

Some the most notable Catamount students are: NBA Assistant Coach, Atlanta Hawks Herb Brown, Class of 1957, Taylor Coppenrath, basketball player and famous college basketball coach Rollie Massimino.
