The school’s athletic program is known as the Explorers. The team won several regular season championships with former MAA Conference in 1984, 1988, and 1989 as well as four other post season conference tournaments.  

Back in 1954 the Explorers also won the NCAA Men’s Division I basketball tournament.

More recently in 2005 the team was amongst the “greatest college basketball programs of all-time”.

The Explorers have been very successful in sending players to the professional league or NBA among them we can mention:  Stan Wiodarszek, George Sutor, Bob McAteer, Jackie Moore, Frank Commerford  and Joe Bryant – who is Kobe Bryant’s father and former coach of the LA Sparks of the WNBA.

The Explorers are currently coach by Dr John Giannini who is in his third season with the team.
