The school’s men basketball team is known as the Minutemen and they have been a very important athletics program at Massachusetts.

The Minutemen have won six regular season conference titles most of them in the 1990’s and a more recent one in 2007.

Some of the Minutemen most accomplished players are:  Boston College head coach Al Skinner,  Basketball Hall of Famer Julius Erving and Louisville head coach Rick Pitino.

The current team’s coach is Travis Ford who has been with the Minutemen since the 2005 season and managed to lead to team to a recent season championship. His current record stands at  98-104 and 165-135 overall.
