The Rhode Island Rams have had some success in previous years in the Atlantic Ten Conference. The Team has appeared in 21 post season tournaments. In 1988 they made it to the Sweet 16 round; ten years later the Rams made it into the Elite 8.
More recently the Rams have made it to the National Invitational Tournament in 2008-2009. 12 of it's players have made it into the All American game.
A couple of players from the Rhode Island University basketball team have made it into the NBA. Among them, the talented Lamar Odom drafted in 1999 to play for the L.A. Clippers.
He was a key player in the 1998-1999 season when he lead the team to their first Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.
In 2008-2009, the Rams played strong and finished 3rd in the A10 standings with an 11-5 in conference games and 22-10 overall record. Most of the team is back for 2010. As of early February 2010, the Rams sit tight at 4th place. They are going to have to bring back their A-game if they want to be part of March Madness again.
