Richmond Spiders is the name of the men’s basketball team. The team has achieved several titles with former CAA conference in 1984, 1988, 1989, 1992, and 2001.

Additionally, the Spiders have appeared in seven NCAA tournaments including a Sweet Sixteen with a combined record of 6-7. Besides several participations in the NIT tournament during the 1980’s thru 2003 as the year of their last tournament game against Providence.

Some Spiders’ most accomplished players have been; Johnny Newman (2,383 game points) and Mike Perry (2,145 game points), Ken Daniel (1,255 rebounds)  and Walt Lysaght (1,190 rebounds).

Richmond Spiders play their home games at the Robins Center and are headed by Chris Mooney.
