Men's basketball has been traditionally the most popular sport at Maryland and the Terrapins have been very consistent over the years.

The team’s coach is Gary Williams, a Maryland graduate who managed to take them to eleven straight NCAA Tournaments (1993-2004) and led them to 20 wins or more for 8 consecutive years (1996-2004)

The main school rivalries are Duke Basketball, Penn State Football, Virginia Football, West Virginia Football and Johns Hopkins Lacrosse.
