UNC Tar Heels competes in the NCAA Division I in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The university is well recognize in this athletic program and in the nation. It is considered one of the most competitive programs in NCAA basketball history.
Dean Smith, one of the greatest coaches of all times, was the UNC Basketball coach from 1961 to 1997, accomplishing 879 wins.
The UNC Men’s Basketball has been one of the greatest programs in the country and have won 5 NCAA titles. Their first title came in 1957, then in 82, 93, 2005 and their most recent feat in 2009.
NBA legend Michael Jordan is perhaps the most outstanding player to have come out of this basketball program.
The Tar Heels have won 26 regular season ACC titles. They have also obtained 17 ACC championships and have participated in 17 Final Fours.
In the 2008-2009 season the Tar Heels finished the regular season with a 13-3 mark in conference games and an overall 28-4 record to move into the NCAA tournament. There they took it all, and defeated Michigan State to win the National Title.
