The Virginia Cavaliers compete in NCCA Division I and is a member of the ACC since 1953. The team has had some success in its history.

The Cavalier Men’s Basketball Team started their first season in 1905-1906. The team has appeared twice in the Final Four and 7 times in the Sweet Sixteen.

The Cavaliers have won 1 ACC Tournament Championship and 5 Regular Season Championships.

Virginia went through a very rough 2008-2009 season. The team was 4-12 in conference games and 10-18 overall. Perhaps this bad performance was what motivated Dave Leitao to retire from coaching.

The Athletic Department hired Tony Bennet hoping he could turn things around. And it seems like he has. As of late January 2010, the Virginia Cavaliers are third in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They are 3-2 in conference games and 17-4 overall, and occupy the third place in the conference standings.
