The Virginia Tech athletics program is part of the Atlantic Coast conference as of the 2004 season and participates in the NCCA Division I.
The men’s basketball team is refered to as the Hokies and it is coached by Seth Greenberg.
The basketball team has seen quite an improvement over the previous years as the result of Head Coach Seth Greenberg’s work.
In the 2006-2007 season Virginia Tech beat Duke on the road and North Carolina at home. Even though they didn't have an overall great season, those two wins over top-ranked team turned out to be very inspiring for both players and fans.
Unfortunately, they did not make it to the finals due to their lost against Southern Illinois in the second round of NCAA tournament 2007.
In the 2008-2009 season the V Tech Hokies finished 9th in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 7-9 in conference games record and an 18-14 overall mark. They have shown a somewhat similar performance in the first half of the 2009-2010 tournament. The junior based squad is 8th as of late January 2010.
