Michigan State athletics team are known as the Spartans which are part of the Big Ten conference in the NCAA Division I.
The men's basketball team has earned twice the NCAA National Championship, in 1979 and 2000.
Since 1995 Tom Izzo was selected as the men’s basketball Coach. His work has shown excellent results as the
Spartans have been present to four of nine NCAA Final Fours (1999-2007) and the team has made a total of 23 NCAA tournament appearances.
Some MSU previous or current outstanding players in the NBA include: Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Morris Peterson, Steve Smith, Eric Snow, Alan Anderson, Greg Kelser, Jay Vincent and Kevin Willis.
During the 2007-08 season, the Spartans had a great season finishing with an overall record of 27-9 and a conference record of 12-6 and getting that way into the Sweet Sixteen. For this new season 2008-09 the team will expected achieving a much better record and obtain a further spot in the NCAA tournament.
